Well, you simply should because the bible says so.
27 But I tell you who hear me: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, 28 bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. 29 If someone strikes you on one cheek, turn to him the other also. If someone takes your cloak, do not stop him from taking your tunic. 30 Give to everyone who asks you, and if anyone takes what belongs to you, do not demand it back.

Not every theist takes the Bible seriously. Just saying.
Well, I couldn’t say ‘dear fundie.’ But that’s the whole point, they cherry-pick the verses they choose to take seriously.

is this in the old or new testament? christians i talk to always claim that the old testament doesn’t apply to them. not that they have read either the old or new testament.
This is in the gospels, new testament. Actually, this is jesus talking.
Regarding the christians who claim that they don’t “live by Old Testament ways,” they should consider jesus’ firm command to the contrary.
