Just because it sounds nice and makes you feel warm and fuzzy, doesn’t mean it is true.

Most of my usual readers know the answer to this question, but let’s break it down for you, dear reader, who were not taught science, and were googling this.

To ancient philosophers, the question about the first chicken or egg also evoked the questions of how life and the universe in general began. A long time ago, in the dark ages maybe, people used to refer to this as one of the unanswerable questions: Which came first, the chicken or the egg?

Simply put, and for most of us, the answer is: “Duh, the egg.”, since egg-laying species pre-date the existence of chickens. So a “first” chicken must have come from an egg which pre-dated that chicken. Actually, since an animal does not evolve into another species during its lifetime, and since organisms can fail to breed true, it is biologically necessary that the chicken egg came first… not from a chicken, though.

This is really not that hard to understand, but you do need to read a science book to be able to grasp how evolution works.

No, evolution isn’t just a theory, it is a scientific theory, which has a completely different meaning. A scientific theory is a well-substantiated explanation of some aspect of the natural world, based on a body of knowledge that has been repeatedly confirmed through observation and experimentation.
