    WARNING: Biologist attempting Philosophy! Watch at your own risk. Most of the images are pretty mild, but some people are disturbed by medical images. Also censored some classic works of art (that are prominently displayed in churches) that depict non-sexual human anatomy.

    Intelligent Design Creationism, in an attempt to subvert the Constitutional protections against religious education in public schools, have jettisoned the Biblical creation story. Along with that, they have lost the “Fallen Eden/Free Will” defense of the Problem of Evil. This creates a special situation where they insist on an interventionist God without a strong position of theodicy.

    This video’s goal is to show one of many religious or theological objections to Intelligent Design Creationism. It’s important to remember that IDC does not represent many intelligent Christians.

  • Astronomy Picture of the Day | Hole in the Sun

    Explanation: This ominous, dark shape sprawling across the face of the Sun is a coronal hole — a low density region extending above the surface where the solar magnetic field opens freely into interplanetary space. Studied extensively from space since the 1960s in ultraviolet and x-ray light, coronal holes are known to be the source of the high-speed solar wind, atoms and electrons which flow outward along the open magnetic field lines. During periods of low activity, coronal holes typically cover regions just above the Sun’s poles. But this extensive coronal hole dominated the Sun’s northern hemisphere earlier this week, captured here in extreme ultraviolet light by cameras onboard the Solar Dynamics Observatory. The solar wind streaming from this coronal hole triggered auroral displays on planet Earth.

    Jonathan Dimbleby and a panel of experts come together to debate the controversial subject of religion in Britain’s schools.

    The role of religion in education is a subject rarely out of the headlines. Despite Britain’s multi-faith society, schools are still required to include a collective act of worship of a Christian nature, while faith schools and religious academies have raised fears about community cohesion and covert selection.

    Claims by some religious educationalists that faith is the best way to teach moral values is challenged by others in schools who believe religious morality to be outdated and dangerous.

    Dimbleby is joined by Professor Richard Dawkins, Schools Select Committee chairman Barry Sheerman MP, and a multi-faith studio audience.
